From Wuyi Mountain’s Zhengyan region.
It boasts a high fragrance that is pleasant and not overpowering, with notes of creamy cinnamon and a hint of roasted aroma.
The tea liquor is golden and clear, with no noticeable bitterness or astringency. It has a smooth mouthfeel and a pronounced sweet aftertaste.
Wuyi Mountain Rougui tea is divided into Zhengshan (core area) and Waishan (outer area) teas, with Zhengshan teas being of higher quality and significantly more expensive than Waishan teas.
Many people believe that Rougui tea has a sharp taste with bitter and astringent tea liquor. In fact, most Rougui teas sold by merchants do indeed have this flavor profile. However, this is not the correct characteristic of Rougui tea. Such flavors result from issues in the production process, particularly inadequate handling during the "make-green" (oxidation) stage.
Good Rougui tea, while having a strong flavor, boasts a rich aroma that includes not only the roasted and baked fragrance but also sweet floral and fruity scents. In contrast, poor quality Rougui tea only has the scent of baking and lacks any floral or fruity notes, and its flavor quickly fades after just one or two infusions.
