About Jiuqu HongMei Black Tea
This tea is made from wild spring tea leaves harvested from ancient tea trees, using traditional fermentation methods. Jiuqu Hongmei tea has a production history of nearly 200 years. During the Taiping Rebellion, a group of tea farmers from the Jiuxi River in Wuyi, Fujian, migrated north to Zhejiang due to the war. They settled in the Dawu Mountain area, cleared land to grow grain and tea for a living, and began producing Jiuqu Hongmei. The tea was named for its red color and delicate fragrance, reminiscent of red plums, hence the name Jiuqu Hongmei (Nine Bends Red Plum).
Good tea can be produced in the high mountain misty environment. Dawu Mountain, at an elevation of 500 meters, benefits from the constant interplay of mist, rain, and sunlight, along with loose, breathable sandy soil, the trees, flowers, and plants in the forest contribute to the accumulation of rich nutrients and aromatic compounds in the tea trees as they grow, resulting in the unique plum fragrance of Jiuqu Hongmei. Jiuqu Hongmei is regarded as one of the famous red teas, on par with Qimen Hong tea and Zhengshan Xiaozhong.
